WILL OF WILLIAM MEWSE 1709

(Regnal year 8 of the reign of Queen Anne)



In the name of God Amen I William Mewse of Lowestoft in ye County of Suffolk then [?] being sick in Body but of perfect mind and memory (Praised to God) doo make ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. Viz first I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my Body to be Buryed in Decent and Christian manner at ye direction of my Executors here after named and as for that Worldly Estate wich it hath praised God to Bless me with all I dispose therefore as foresaid. I give and bequeath unto Ruth Mewse my loving wife all my houses or Tenements in Lowestoft aforsed for and during ye term of her naturel life together with ye Outhouses Yards Gardens and Appurtances to ye same belonging and in any appertaining And after her decease I give all the sd houses with their Appurtances as forsed to William Mewse my son (which I had by the said Ruth my now wife) to his heirs forever he paying my debts Legacies and funeral Expenses. But if it shall that ye son William Mewse shall depart this life before my said wife leaving no heirs lawfully begotten then I give all the same as aforsd to my wives whole and sole disposall as she shall think fitt.

Item I give and bequeath unto William Mewse my son (which I had by my former wife Rebecca) the sum of five shillings to be paid within 3 months after my decease if the same be lawfully demanded. Item I give and bequeath unto my Grandchild Eliz Meuse, daug of my son Thomas Mewse of Ormsby in the County of Norfolk and to ye Daughter of John Woodcock of Cambridge which he had by his wife Rebecca (the daughter of Thomas Harwood) the sum of Ten Pounds apiece of lawful money of Gt Britain to be paid within 12 months next after my wifes decease if they shall be then living. but if either of them shall happen to depart this life before the legacy shall become as aforsd then I give and bequeath the legacy of her so deceased unto ye Survivor of them.

Item I give and bequeath unto Ruth my said loving wife and to her heirs all my money Bills Bonds Bedding Lineen Wollen Household Stuff and personall Estate whoever Goth within Doores and without and I do nominate constitute and appoint my said loving wife Ruth Mewse and William Mewse my son (by the sd Ruth) Exrs of this my last Will and Testanent contained in one sheet of paper hereby making null and void all other and former Wills by my make In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal. ye sixth day of January in ye Eightth Year of the reigne of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the Grace of God of Gt Britain.
